Snippets from Christmas 2012

Lovely to bring my house full of visions of sugar plums again.

Also managed to get up to London, headed off to Portabello Road in Notting Hill  first, greeted with the mulled wine stall and gratefully received as the weather was murky and miserable drizzle.

Though I made sure that we stopped for lunch at my fav restaurant called " The First Floor" , don't be put off by the lovely setting, you can turn up ladened with shopping and big coats and will be given a lovely welcome, it costs about the same as any of the busy cafe's and restaurants all along the Portbello road, but if you want to calm down and get away from the bustle, and enjoy the setting of candle light and romance I suggest you take a look see.

Then upstairs on the 2nd floor where the loos are you will be treated to a view of the private rooms.

This wall is oozing with glitter, just beautiful.

Just up a road and parallel to Portabello is one of my fav inspirational places
 Rachell Ashwell Shabby Chic Shop.

Then me and my girls headed off to Knightsbridge on our way to the Victoria and Albert Museum, where incidently there is a good exhibition on the Hollywood greats and the costumes, the museum is just up the road from  Harrods Dept Store. So of course we stopped for a little photo opportunity.
The shop windows were dressed with all the Disney Princesses
My fav's being Cinderella's Castle and her slipper in the rotating shoe .... divine!

Rupunzel with amazing hair
But Sleeping Beauty is my favorite
Happy New Year to All.

Tis the Season to Get Creating

Just thought I should say a thank you to everyone that still comes to this blog. Its amazing you do.

I have not posted in such a long time. I am currently getting into the Christmas festive season and have even got back to the sewing machine and some crafts. I want to make a stocking this christmas for a friend and thought I would base the stocking on one I made 5 years ago,  you can see it in my November 2007 post ( see the side bar). I cannot believe it was 5 years ago ... thats terrible, only seems like yesterday.  I also want to recreate this banner above, both the banner and stocking were given away to complete strangers in a swap. I used to do that sort of thing all the time, spend hours on them and make them just beautiful and then promise myself I would make the same thing for myself. Well I never did. So this year I am going to do this banner and a stocking. You can see my cute vintage flower fairy made by Niki of Nostalgia,  see her in my favs list ( she is one of my all time fav blogger and doll makers, I have quite a few of her masterpieces ).

I'll get on and create and get back to you shortly .... and thats a promise. x

Wedding Fever

Dress by Alice Temperly named "The long Twinkle Dress"

I do love a wedding and there is a biggie on the horizon, the dress is all but ready, there are 2  cakes, the guest list is huge, the flowers are just gorgeous. All the children of the land have the day off from school, street parties are planned, dance nights are themed. The Union Jacks and bunting are coming out, it could be a lot of fun !
Kate Middleton soon to be Princess Catherine is going to make a beautiful bride, not only is she a bright well educated girl she has excellent taste in clothes, which can only be a good thing for the fashion world. Prince William has certainly picked a lovely lady and no doubt his mother the late Princess Diana would be very proud of them both.

I know its not to everyone's cup of tea but I do love a wedding especially a Royal Wedding. I love the pageantry, the BBC reporting on every little detail, historical coaches  polished up and taken out
as they would have done for kings and queens of a bygone era.
Then there is the cake - what lucky Bakers received the commission of a lifetime -
I heard Mcvities the Biscuit makers got the order.

Well maybe this one is a bit over the top - but hey a Prince IS getting married.
So the biggest most exciting thing for me is THE DRESS .... Well who is designing the dress !

The British designers are at the top of the list for this commission,  though I heard
Vivienne Westward thinks Kate is not ready for her yet, so maybe we should rule this one out.

Or will it be something of the feather variety from Sarah Burton.
Well not if your a little allergic :-(
How about Ruffles like this from the designers at Alexander Mcqueen.
 I love ruffles !
Designed at Atelier Versace  - I LOVE this !  If I had to choose I  might like this.

Or this one by Alice Temperley
I love the body skimming fluidity of this one with delicate ruffles fluting out below.

Or maybe a more traditional style with sweeping ruffles in satin and organza by Conceptual.

But this one with the popular pleating is just beautiful by Blumarine ... maybe this one
Or how about this one from the Atelier Versace
.
I mean  with all this choice does it have to be white.
Well Yes, I have made my decision I am wearing this one by Ralph Lauren ....
Oooops  its not me getting married is it ... right what to wear as a guest then..

Designed by Rina di Montella this is so elegant, good enough for the bride or bridesmaids.

.

I love the way this fits - smooth tight lines like a corset.
Then who could resist pink ruffles from Alice Temperley,
However I could resist the high price tag
I think I could settle for this pale blue little number from Wraponline, and maybe ruffle up a pair of shoes to match,

Yes there is one little hitch ..... WHAT !  ..... I am not invited to the wedding,......   ooooh poo

Ok me and the hat  will just have to sit in front of the TV.

with the biscuits !!

A limited Edition Biscuit Tin filled with iced biscuits. Priced at £40.00 from Biscuiteers
So roll on 29th April  - I am setting the tea table buffet party style so that the family can help themselves to any food, or drink as I am unavailable (yes you all heard)  ... I am watching TV all day (and not answering the phone !)  ...   yes some might say "how sad" , I  really don't care !!

I do love a Royal Wedding !!!

Just a thought but ...

You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,

Love like you'll never be hurt,

Sing like there's nobody listening,

And live like it's heaven on earth."

by William W. Purkey

alternatively this sounds like good advice  too

Happiness

For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time to still be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time … and remember that time waits for no one…

So stop waiting
until you finish school,
until you go back to school,
until you lose ten pounds,
until you gain ten pounds,
until you have kids,
until your kids leave the house,
until you start work,
until you retire,
until you get married,
until you get divorced,
until Friday night,
until Sunday morning,
until you get a new car or home,
until your car or home is paid off,
until spring,
until summer,
until fall,
until winter,
until you are off welfare,
until the first or fifteenth,
until your song comes on,
until you've had a drink,
until you've sobered up,
until you die,
until you are born again
to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy…

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
